MacLenz is built so that your activity stays on your Mac. This page says exactly what is stored, what leaves your Mac, and who sees what when you buy Pro.

The short version

  • Your activity history and performance log are saved only on your Mac. They are never uploaded.
  • There is no MacLenz account, and no analytics or tracking in the app or on this website.
  • MacLenz goes online for one reason: to check your Pro license. An optional YouTube thumbnails setting is off by default.
  • Payments are taken by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record.
  • If you ask to be told when MacLenz launches, we keep your email address for that one email.

What MacLenz stores on your Mac

MacLenz records which apps and websites you use and for how long, the titles of the windows and browser tabs you have open, the addresses of the pages you visit, and how your Mac performs (CPU, memory, disk and heat). Private and incognito browser windows are saved only as "Private Browsing". It never reads the contents of pages, documents, passwords or messages.

Everything lives in the folder ~/Library/Application Support/MacLenz. Settings, then Data, then Uninstall MacLenz deletes that folder, your settings and the permissions you gave the app, and moves the app to the Trash.

The launch notice list

Until MacLenz launches, the Download button invites you to leave your email address so that we can tell you the day it is ready. If you do, whether in the form or by writing to us, we keep the address (and, from the form, the page you were on) where only we can read it. We use it to send you that launch email and for nothing else, and we do not sell it or share it. To be taken off the list, or to have your address deleted, write to support@maclenz.com.

What leaves your Mac

When you activate Pro, and again once a day while you are online, MacLenz sends a request to the license server run by Lemon Squeezy (api.lemonsqueezy.com). The request contains your license key, a random name for your Mac such as "Mac 7F3A", and the app's version in the standard user-agent line. Like any internet request, it also reveals your IP address to that server. It does not contain your activity, window titles, page addresses or the name of your Mac.

Until you activate a license, MacLenz makes no license requests at all, and the Free plan works fully offline. The license and the date your plan runs until are kept in your Mac's Keychain, so Pro keeps working offline until that date. There is one optional setting, YouTube thumbnails, which is off by default. If you switch it on, MacLenz loads the thumbnails of videos you watched from YouTube's image servers (i.ytimg.com).

Buying Pro

You pay on a checkout page run by Lemon Squeezy, who act as the merchant of record. They collect your name, email, billing country and payment details, handle sales tax, and send you the receipt and license key. We see your order details, such as your email address, name, country and what you bought, so we can give you support. Card details are handled by Lemon Squeezy and never reach us. Their privacy policy applies to what they collect.

This website

The website sets no cookies and loads no analytics, advertising or third-party fonts. Our web host may keep ordinary server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.

Your choices

  • Delete your activity at any time in Settings, then Data.
  • Release a license seat with Deactivate This Mac in Settings, then Plan.
  • Ask us to delete the order details we hold by writing to support@maclenz.com.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Questions go to support@maclenz.com.
